The Challenge
A large UK events venue was experiencing repeated burst pipes on its ageing PVC water main. Frequent failures were disrupting operations, increasing maintenance costs and resulting in significant water losses. Following a detailed site survey, Demeter concluded that the existing network had reached the end of its operational life and recommended a complete replacement of the main supply.
The Solution
Demeter designed and delivered a comprehensive infrastructure upgrade, replacing approximately 500 metres of ageing water main and reconnecting the site's buildings to the new network. As part of the project, 12 sub-meters were installed using LoRaWAN communications, providing continuous visibility of water consumption across individual buildings and enabling rapid identification of future issues.

The Outcome
The project has transformed the way water is managed across the site. Before the upgrade, the venue's two incoming water supplies recorded a continuous overnight flow of approximately 5,000 litres per hour, indicating substantial water loss from the ageing infrastructure. Following completion of the new pipe network, overnight flows now reduce to zero, confirming that unnecessary water loss has been eliminated.
Beyond the immediate savings, the installation of 12 LoRaWAN-enabled sub-meters provides permanent visibility across the site, allowing individual building supplies to be monitored independently. If future anomalies occur, the affected area can be identified quickly, significantly reducing investigation time and supporting efficient long-term asset management. With a brand-new water network designed to last for 60 years or more, the venue now has the infrastructure and data needed to manage water effectively for decades to come.
