Water Efficiency Delivers Long-Term Savings Across a Higher Education Campus
Introduction
A higher education campus is committed to enhancing its sustainability and resource efficiency. Its city campus is a bustling centre of academic activity, and Demeter has been providing water monitoring services since 2017. Through a consistent approach to monitoring and several site surveys and data analysis, we were able to achieve substantial improvements in water efficiency.
Before Active Monitoring: Where They Were
When Demeter first began working with the campus in 2017, it consumed an average of 346 cubic metres of water per week. Our surveys conducted over the years identified issues, particularly with toilet systems.
After Active Monitoring: Where They Are Now
Since the introduction of active monitoring and detailed data analysis, the campus has made significant strides in reducing water consumption. By 2024, the average water usage dropped to 137 cubic metres per week, representing a 60% reduction in water consumption compared to the initial levels.
This improvement was made possible through investments in better quality toilet fittings and ongoing optimisation suggestions provided by Demeter.

The impact of these efforts has been substantial:
